Wax Being (2015)
This sculpture is made of multiple solid Paraffin Wax layers forming a total of 100kg. The slabs are referring to the human body, which is equally built in layers – literally in our hair or skin and metaphorically in our years of existence and layers of experiences we accumulate. I used unprocessed and pure wax as material for my work because I know it is unstable and its handling is familiar to us humans as our body is capable of same processing: pouring, flowing, dripping, hardening, coagulating, expanding, contracting, repeating and cracking. You can find visible traces of change on the surfaces of the solid wax slabs which are similar to our own transformation process called ageing.
